What do Business Owners **NEED** to Know about Websites?

Most of you know that I released my first book last year – The Modern Day Printing Press: An Unofficial Guide to WordPress for Small Business (Go to Main Site | Buy at Amazon). What you may not know is that I have a more official book coming out in just a few weeks. Published by SitePoint, The WordPress Anthology will be released later this month, and it provides a thorough textbook tour through what is in my opinion the best, most powerful content management system on the market today.

During my recent trip out to Australia for James Schramko‘s Fast Web Formula 3, I met up with the lovely Sophy Neocleous, the owner of Internet Marketing News Report. Sophy and I started chatting about the new book due out from SitePoint in a few short weeks and during our conversation I was reminded of how important it is to start with the very basics about what makes up WordPress, why it is such a stellar tool, and probably most importantly – the fact that most folks who run a business need to focus on what they are most interested in – running their own business!

That’s right… in talking about my new book that’s all about how to play with the technical bells and whistles of WordPress, I remembered that the technical bells and whistles are not what turns most people on.

So two things I thought I’d bring up today for those of you who are business owners…

  1. You know that your business needs a solid, up-to-date web presence. You know that you don’t know everything there is to know about that, and probably don’t even know the right questions to ask. If that sums up where you are at and you haven’t already done so, pick up The Modern Day Printing Press at Amazon… it’s a book designed to be read in 45 minutes or less that equips you with all of the basic non-techie information you need to know so that you ask potential web developers the right questions.
  2. Late last year, Sophy interviewed me about The Modern Day Printing Press where I talk about a lot of what is actually in the book… if you find it easier to listen to a 30 minute podcast than to read a book, a lot of the details about what’s in the book are given away right inside here. If that sounds like you, go over to IM News Report and check it out.

And of course, if you have questions about what your business actually needs in a website or even want me to review your existing one, drop me a line or post a comment below and I’ll get back with you as soon as I can.
