HTML5 Vs Flash Looks like HTML5 May Win the Race.

Adobe has had a long battle with justifying the future of their flash platform. This HTML5 vs Flash battle was brought into play when Steve Jobs wrote an open letter to Adobe. The letter was explaining why he’s decided to not allow flash on his iOS platform–in favor of HTML5. In a strong effort to prove the platform was still relevant, Adobe started developing a mobile version of Flash. Though they succeeded in doing so, even on high end devices, it is generally underwhelming.

Today Adobe has changed their tune to something Steve might have favored more. Adobe has decided to halt all development on Flash for Mobile platforms. This is including an upcoming iOS release. Adobe has focused their attention on tools which “allow Flash developers to create mobile apps by packaging their code to run on Adobe’s AIR platform.”, according to the report.

Google and Apple have both taken sides with HTML5 vs Flash as the future. Though Adobe announcing more support for Adobe AIR isn’t exactly a clear sign that HTML5 has won the race, it’s certainly a start.

Even more interesting, the report also briefly mentions Adobe plans investing more in HTML5 vs Flash technology. Quoting Adobe they plan on “…focusing Flash resources on delivering the most advanced PC web experiences, including gaming and premium video, as well as mobile apps.”

Some more good news if you currently own a Flash enabled mobile device. Adobe promises to continue support for critical security fixes and patches. This is reassuring for many users as Flash is one of the biggest source of controversy for security.
